Stem Cell Therapy

Harnessing your body's natural regenerative potential

Understanding Stem Cells

Stem cells are specialized cells that your body naturally produces throughout your lifetime. Unlike most cells in your body—which have a single, fixed purpose—stem cells possess a remarkable characteristic: they can develop into different types of tissue depending on what your body needs. Muscle cells, bone cells, cartilage cells, nerve cells—stem cells have the potential to support the development and maintenance of many tissue types.

Think of stem cells as your body’s built-in repair and maintenance system. When tissue becomes damaged or inflamed, stem cells can travel to the affected area and release biological signals. These signals help coordinate your body’s response to injury, supporting natural repair processes and helping to regulate inflammation. This signaling function may be as important as the cells’ ability to differentiate into other tissue types.

Stem cell therapy works with this natural system. Rather than introducing foreign substances or surgically removing damaged tissue, regenerative medicine concentrates your body’s own regenerative cells and delivers them where additional support is needed. The goal is to provide your body with the resources it needs to do what it’s naturally designed to do—maintain and repair itself.

How Stem Cell Therapy Works at Vita Nova

Our comprehensive 5-step process ensures quality, precision, and personalized care at every stage
  • Step 1: Comprehensive Consultation and Evaluation

Every therapy journey begins with an in-depth consultation. This is not a brief appointment—we take the time necessary to truly understand your situation. Our physicians review your complete medical history, including previous diagnoses, treatments you've tried, medications you're taking, and any relevant surgeries or procedures.

We discuss your symptoms in detail—not just where it hurts, but how your condition affects your daily life, what makes symptoms better or worse, how symptoms have evolved over time, and what you've noticed about patterns or triggers. We review relevant imaging studies—MRIs, CT scans, X-rays—and may recommend additional imaging if needed to fully understand your condition.

During this consultation, we also discuss whether stem cell therapy is appropriate for your specific condition. Not every patient is a suitable candidate, and not every condition responds equally to regenerative approaches. We believe in honest, straightforward communication about what stem cell therapy can and cannot do, and we'll never recommend a care plan that we don't believe is in your best interest.

  • Step 2: Cell Collection

At Vita Nova, we use autologous stem cells exclusively. 'Autologous' means the cells come from your own body. This approach eliminates concerns about rejection, allergic reactions, or compatibility issues that can arise with donor cells or synthetic materials. Your immune system recognizes your own cells as belonging to you, avoiding the complications that can occur when foreign biological material is introduced.

The collection process is performed in our office using minimally invasive techniques. Our physicians have extensive experience with cell harvesting and prioritize your comfort throughout the procedure. Most patients tolerate collection well, experiencing only mild, temporary discomfort.

  • Step 3: In-House Laboratory Processing and Expansion

This step represents one of Vita Nova's most significant differentiators. Unlike many regenerative medicine practices that send patient samples to external laboratories, we process and expand cells in our own on-site facility. This gives us complete control over quality at every stage of the process.

Importantly, we document cell counts and viability for every patient. This documentation provides tangible evidence of what you're receiving, not just verbal assurances. When we tell you about your care plan, we can show you the data. This level of transparency is rare in the regenerative medicine field, but we believe it should be standard practice.

  • Step 4: Precision Delivery

Accurate placement of regenerative cells matters significantly. Delivering cells to the wrong location—or even slightly off-target—can reduce effectiveness. That's why we use Ultrasound guidance and/or fluoroscopy for procedures where precision is important.

Ultrasound guidance and/or fluoroscopy imaging allows our physicians to visualize your anatomy in real-time during injection. We can see exactly where the needle is positioned and confirm that cells are being delivered to the intended target—whether that's a specific joint space, a particular region of a disc, or another target structure.

  • Step 5: Follow-Up Care and Monitoring

Regenerative therapy isn't a one-time event—it's an ongoing process. After your therapy, we schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress, assess how you're responding, and make any necessary adjustments to your care plan.

Response timelines vary significantly between patients and conditions. Some people notice changes within weeks; others require several months before experiencing meaningful benefit. Our monitoring protocol allows us to track your individual trajectory and provide guidance tailored to your specific response.

Start With Why

Why We Use Your Own Cells

Autologous stem cells provide safety, compatibility, and documented quality

Elimination of Rejection Risk

Your immune system recognizes your own cells as natural and appropriate. There's no risk of your body mounting an immune response against the therapy.

No Compatibility Concerns

Every person's biology is unique. Using your own cells means the regenerative material is perfectly matched to your individual biological profile.

Documented
Quality

Because we process cells in our own laboratory, we can document exactly what you're receiving. Cell count and viability reports provide concrete evidence of care quality.

Ethical
Clarity

Using your own adult stem cells avoids the ethical questions that can arise with other cell sources.

Expectation

What to Expect from Therapy

Stem cell therapy is performed in our Franklin, Tennessee office. Most patients experience mild discomfort during the procedure itself, typically described as pressure or brief stinging sensations. We take steps to ensure your comfort, and most patients find the procedure tolerable.

Results vary considerably by individual and condition. We’re always honest about this variability—regenerative medicine isn’t a guarantee, and response timelines differ significantly. Some patients notice improvement within weeks; others require several months.

Realistic Expectations
